The U.S. Green Building Council has awarded its Leed Healthcare Platino certificate to the Fraternidad-Muprespa Habana hospital, which became operational in April. This certificate recognizes the set of environmental actions in the design, construction and operation of this center, such as the use of non-polluting materials or energy efficiency.
In this sense, significant savings in energy consumption have been obtained thanks to aspects such as the central location of the hospital, accessibility by public transport, power generation through thermal and photovoltaic solar panels, heat production plant with high performance boilers and heat recovery system in combustion fumes and refrigeration plant with chillers equipped with heat recovery. All these components made the building obtain the energy rating A. In addition, a recovery system for drainage water and gray water treatment has been installed for its reuse.
G.O.C. has participated both in the design of the hospital and in the supervision of the demolition and subsequent construction works. The building, which has an area of 14,363 square meters distributed over 8 floors, has a construction budget around 14 million euros.
